The Dying Priest

In New Delhi, an old Catholic priest lay dying in the hospital.
For years he had faithfully tended to his small flock in India’s capital.
He motioned for his nurse to come near.
“Yes, Father?” said the nurse.
“I would really like to see Paramjit Sarna and Parkash Badal before I die”, whispered the priest.
“I’ll see what I can do, Father”, replied the nurse.
The nurse conveyed the request to the Doctor who quickly made the necessary phone-calls – or, to be fair, at least as quickly as you can make phone calls in India! And he waited for a response.
Soon the word arrived; Chief Minister Parkash Badal and DSGPC head Paramjit Sarna would be delighted to visit the priest.
As they arrived at the hospital, Badal commented to Sarna, “I don’t know why the old priest wants to see us, but it’s a great photo-op … and it’ll impress the jutts (farmers) out of their minds come election time. After all, I’m ‘IN IT TO WIN IT”.
Sarna agreed that it was a good thing.
When they arrived at the priest’s room, the priest took Badal’s hand in his right hand and Sarna’s hand in his left.
There was silence and a look of serenity on the old priest’s face.
Finally Badal – twirling his moustache – spoke …
“Reverend, of all the people you could have chosen, why did you choose us to be with you as you near the end?”
The old priest slowly replied, “I have always tried to pattern my life after our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.”
Badal looked at Sarna and nodded approvingly.
The old priest continued.
“Jesus died between two lying thieves; I would like to do the same.”
